Silent Auction Items Are Up!

Posted on: March 24, 2010 at 5:53 am - Comment

I’ve posted the Silent Auction Items, since we have so many, on Facebook. It looks at lot better and you’re able to comment and ask questions. There are some really great stuff to bid on so if you’re looking for a gift for a birthday or Mother’s Day or an anniversary I think you’ll find it here!

Follow this link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Charleston-Twestival/305199853305?v=photos&ref=ts (Thanks to @avltwestival @saraneedham for the inspiration + organization)

Hope to see you tomorrow, remember there’s Yoga in Marion Square from 1-3pm!

——

Where we are with fundraising, our corporate sponsors have sent $1850 to Concern. Thanks to Blackbaud, Stasmayer, Coastal Community Foundation, and The Modern Connection.

Thanks to Charleston Yogi, Kit Creative Marketing, KMK Web, and Palmetto Primary Physician (on behalf of Lost River Naturals) for making this event come together. We could not have pulled it off with your donation.

If we sell all of our tickets, we will have raised ($2500) + $1850 = $4350. $1650 is what we need to make from the silent auction to reach out $6000 goal. $6000 is what is needed to feed a classroom of 30 students, one solid meal a day. I know that we can do it, and if you are unable to attend, please consider donating $1 or $5. You can see your name scroll across our flashy Paypal widget :)

We are the CHARLESTONSCENE + Very Charlestonian

Posted on: March 19, 2010 at 8:33 am - Comment

So, what’s going on next week on March 25th:

1:00pm - 3:00pm We are fundraising in Marion Square. Stop by for some afternoon yoga, tell your friends, we’ll be out there. We ask that you bring a donation for Concern. Whatever you can spare, maybe it’s what you would have spent on coffee that day, or lunch out with coworkers. We’ll take what we can get. Education is the only way out of extreme poverty and Caryn Antos of Yoga Benefits is aligned with our mission, Yoga for education!

5:30pm - 7:00pm Join us at the Rebekah Jacob Gallery for networking and some pre-event cocktails.

6:30pm - 9:30pm The rest of our event and your ticket will be extended to The Real Estate Studio. Thank you to DJ Natty Heavy for donating his time and entertainment for our event! Shine your shoes and check out some of the things we have for our silent auction.

I have to extend major gratitude towards Baked for our dessert table, The Buccaneer + Queen Anne’s Revenge for hors d’oeuvres, ICEBOX + Santi’s Restaurante Mexicano + Ben Arnold/Gallo Wines + Firefly Vodka for stocking our bar! Please visit their sites, we’ve linked to them on the right :)

——–

Thanks to Jen Frye of The Charlestonian for including Twestival on their calendar of events! If you’re unfamiliar with this wonderful group, check out their monthly events and join for six months or a year. This is one of the most dynamic social networking groups in town.

Thanks to Daniel Brock from Charleston Scene for doing a wonderful write-up on us!

“I wanted to bring Twestival to Charleston because it’s a great place to live, and it would be a good reflection to give back,” said Christina Lor, lead organizer for Twestival in Charleston. “It’s about tying the great aspects of the Lowcountry into social media for social good.”

Lor and other organizers, many of whom met on Twitter, have been planning the event since getting approval from global officials in January.

They, along with scores of Twitter users and other interested parties, will meet-up for offline fundraising efforts around town.

Twestival kicks off March 25th with a donations-based yoga class and two cocktail events in the evening starting at 5:30pm at the Rebekah Jacob Gallery and then 6:30pm at The Real Estate Studio with DJ Natty Heavy. We will have a silent auction that will be processed through donations on our PayPal widget on-site. Charleston Twestival is the driving force to getting you offline and in person with others in the Lowcountry. Twestival is the essence of philanthropy while using social media to accomplish social good.

We will soon be announcing the details for this event and have lots of community activities lined up to engage every interest in Charleston. It is the hope of our planning team to share this exuberance of life, we get to experience in the lovely Lowcountry, and express concern for others. Concern is not just care for ourselves, and our neighbors, but care for the world.

Twestival Global is the celebration and awareness of 300 international cities fundraising on the same day for Concern Worldwide. Pencil in the date and join one of our many fundraisers on March 25th. Let it spread into your heart, your soul, and your home.

What is Twestival?

  • Twestival is you and me.
  • Twestival is using social media for social good.
  • This year, Twestival is reminding us to have Concern. Concern for those that have none, those that yearn to learn, and those of us with plenty of Concern to give.
Twestival Global 2010, here’s a video made by @itswendylou that can show you how viral word-of-mouth tweets can be.
Enjoy!

Save the date for March 25th

Greetings, Charleston!

On March 25, Charleston will join the world in global giving for Concern Worldwide. For 24 hours, the world will focus on having concern for the world’s poorest children and providing opportunities for them to be educated.

From the Twestival Global Web site,

“Twestival™ (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good.  All of the local events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to projects.”

We hope you will join us as we prepare the first-ever Twestival in Charleston. Last year, 202 international cities raised $250,000 for charity:water. 1 billion people were impacted with access to clean water by 55 wells in Uganda, Ethiopia, and India. Last fall, over $450,000 was raised for 135 charities in the host cities own backyards through Twestival Local.

Using social media for social good raised over $750,000 in 2009 alone. If you are interested in volunteering, there is a link above for you to connect with us. We look forward to seeing the many ways that Charleston can contribute and bring awareness to Concern. In a city where philanthropy is synonymous with hospitality, I look forward to serving with you and for you!

Very best,

Christina

Thanks to the generosity of EF/AVHHF all donations and ticket sales are being matched through March 25 up to $100,000.

100% of proceeds support Concern Worldwide
